The Barcelona Unbeaten Record has finally come to an end as they lost in a Copa del Rey game against Espanyol. The game which ended 1-0 saw the great Catalonian side suffer defeat in the Copa del Rey march. Barcelona had so many opportunities to score in the game but couldn’t do their usual magic even after a final statistic showing that they had 68% of the ball possession, six shots off target and three shots on target.
The most painful part of the loss was that Messi had a penalty which would have been a perfect opportunity to put his team ahead, but he lost it to a save by Diego Lopez.
Denis Suarez also had a great chance before half-time after he caught a very good pass from Digne, but just like against Celta Vigo he fired well wide. There were also some very interesting opportunity for them to win the match but all of this chances were all missed, leading to the end of Barcelona unbeaten record.
Ernesto Valverde, who had a past with the club, was applauded by the fans who came to watch the match, but they also threw objects at Jasper Cillisen and went wild after two minutes to celebrate a winner.
The team also did not have Luis Suarez (until he later came on at the 59th minute) and Jordi Alba as always and maybe this might have contributed to the lack of Goals, especially for Messi.

But on the good side, there will be a second leg. So Barcelona has to win by more than one goal and also have an aggregate lead to qualify for the next round.
Barcelona has had a very good run, and until the match against Espanyol, they have not lost a game this season. They have been a great team, and are currently at the top of the La Liga table, moving clear of Real Madrid by 19 points, but with a game in hand for real Madrid. The second leg will be played on the 25th of January with Barcelona at home.
