Luka Modric wins 2018 ballon d’Or – After a decade of the Ballon d’Or passing like a baton between two of football favorite players, the award has finally changed hands. The 2018 ballon d’Or was held on Monday, 3rd of December 2018 night at the Grand Palais, Paris (one of the locations used in mission impossible fallout).

Modric who plays at Real Madrid as a midfielder has been exceptional for both his club and country this year, after helping Croatia to reach the final of the 2018 FIFA world cup. This year will be the first time in a decade that anyone different from Lionel Messi of Barcelona or Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus Turin has taken the cup home.

Other players like Cristiano Ronaldo finished second, Antonio Griezmann finished third, Kylian Mbappe finished fourth while Lionel Messi finished fifth. Modric will be the first Croatian to bag the ward, and this is also his third award this year.
