Rapper Rick Ross, 39, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, was arrested on Wednesday in Georgia on charges of kidnapping & aggravated assault.
Ross was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Also arrested was Nadrian Lateef James, 42, who prosecutors described as Ross’ bodyguard. James faces charges of kidnapping & aggravated assault, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
According to authorities, Ross forced an unidentified man into his guest house on June 7. He was kept in the bedroom of the house against his wishes for several hours and was injured during the incident. Ross and James are charged with beating the man with a handgun.
Ross and James made an initial appearance before a magistrate judge Wednesday morning, but bond proceedings have been referred to a county superior court, documents show.
According to Ballard, the two could remain in custody as long as a week before the superior court judge is scheduled to sit.
Ross’ representatives have not responded to a request for comment, and the sheriff’s statement did not give any details about the alleged assault or the alleged victim.
