Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for the 2016/2017 season. Ronaldo beat off his competitor, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to win the prestigious award at a ceremony in Nyon, Switzerland.
Furthermore, the Portuguese international, Cristiano Ronaldo has helped the Spanish club to their second successive UEFA Champions League title and 12th overall in European football’s premier club competition.
Ronaldo Wins UEFA Men’s Player Of The Year Award
Currently, Ronaldo is the first player ever to score in three Champions League finals and helped Real become the first team in history to retain the trophy.

According to Ronaldo after receiving the award, he said, “I’m so glad to be here, am honored to win this trophy,” “Thank you to my team-mates and congratulations to them too. I’m so blessed – thanks also to the supporters of Real Madrid, and everyone who helped me to achieve this trophy.”
Ronaldo, received 482 points in the poll, as he finished top scorer in last season’s UEFA Champions League with 12 goals, including two in the final against Juventus in Cardiff. Furthermore, Messi has 141 votes as the second man and Buffon with 109 votes finishing third.

The UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award is based on players’ performances during the 2016/17 season in all competitions, both domestic and international, and at club and national team levels.
