According to court records released on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017, Tiger Woods, a 41 year-old golf star was caught by the police in South Florida while sleeping at the wheels of his car under the influence of alcohol in his 2015 black Mercedes-Benz.
Court records released show that he was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and cited for improper stopping, standing or parking in an unauthorized place. The 41-year-old golf star also scored .000 on two Breathalyzer tests given to him after he was arrested by the police.
The statement filed by the police stated that Woods had probably used four medications for his left knee surgeries and Achilles among the injuries that needed required surgeries over the years and compelled him out of major competition.
A Jupiter police officer said he found Woods’ stopped in a roadway in the right lane and the golfer buckled in the driver’s seat, his car was still running and the right blinker was flashing. Court record showed that he was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and cited for inappropriate stopping, standing or parking in an unauthorized place.
The affidavit also said that, when he was asked by the police officer to walk on a straight line as part of the test to prove that he was okay, it was impossible for him as he was stepping off the line and using his hands for supports.
Even the test of standing on his leg and touching his fingers to his nose was difficult for the golf star. “After several times of explaining instructions he completed the task correctly,” the police officer affirmed.
Woods in a statement on Monday 30th, 2017 denying that alcohol was the cause said; “I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
He also apologized to his family, friends and fans, encouraged himself and promised to do everything within his power to ensure that such an incident never occurs again.
Woods was once the world’s top-best golfer, winning 14 major golf tournaments and raking in $1 billion worth of endorsement deals.
Woods’ career has been facing challenges due to some physical injuries since 2008 and he has not won a major title since then. His career was also derailed by a sxx scandal in 2009, and he announced the following year that he was divorcing from his wife, Swedish model Elin Nordegren, the woman who had given birth to his two kids.
Woods had on February, 2017 dropped out of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The golfer complained of back spasms following the first round and he was also absent at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March as recovered from the spasms and missed the Masters the next month making it the third time in four years.
